Join the dynamic and talented staff at HIMSS International as our Conference Programme Specialist as we lead healthcare transformation through the effective use of health information technology.


A key part of the Programme Specialist role will be to support the team with all required elements of end-to-end program planning and delivery of HIMSS’ flagship healthcare events in the EMEA region, as well as creating international sessions for HIMSS’ Global conference in the US. You may also work on smaller, more bespoke content projects for clients in the healthcare and technology sectors.


The Programme Specialist reports to the Senior Director of Programming and Content. In this position, you will be responsible for connecting with experts to build the overall programme for conferences as well as managing speakers in advance, onsite and/or online.


This position works closely with Sales, Marketing and Logistics team.


Every conference begins with a strong objective. The Programme Specialist’s Role Includes:



Research and Programme Development

  • Contribute to the development of high-quality conference agendas that deliver cutting-edge thought leadership, global insights and trends, best practice examples and the latest innovations in digital health
  • Research and validate ideas for conference topics, themes and learning objectives to deliver maximum engagement and success with HIMSS’ target audiences


Speaker Acquisition and Management

  • Acquire top-level, high-profile speakers, both international and local to the event region, to educate, share learning, challenge, and inspire our audiences
  • Confirm frontline health and IT professionals at the forefront of delivering healthcare transformation to share learnings from their successes and failures



  • Liaising with operations colleagues for logistical requirements
  • Liaising with speakers – collating speaker presentation materials and logistical requirements of speakers


Onsite management:

  • Ensuring logistical arrangements
  • Assist speakers with their materials, ensuring sessions start on time



  • Analysis of conference evaluations
  • Collation of speakers’ presentation materials



As a non-profit organization, HIMSS serves its members and is committed to bringing up-to-date news and education to its members and the public. Other than conferences, HIMSS runs educational initiatives like webinars and print/online publications

Responsibilities include:

  • Identify appropriate speaker/thought leader according to a specific theme
  • Work with speaker to identify appropriate presentation topic and focus areas
  • Work with marketing team to ensure registration numbers meet the agreed objectives

What you will need to be successful:

The successful candidate will have the following background:


Must Have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree
  • English as first language
  • Circa 2+ years’ experience working in areas such as: content creation for events, journalism, communications OR
  • This opportunity is also open to recent graduates who can evidence considerable work experience in events, media, journalism or other forms of content creation. For example, you were a writer or editor for your university magazine, or run your own podcast)
  • A passion for healthcare, technology, and/or another public policy area would be an advantage
  • Skilled in all aspects of copywriting, attention to detail and proof-reading skills
  • Outstanding time management & organisational skills
  • Availability to travel overseas to events
  • Strong multi-cultural interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Successful experience in teamwork
  • Ability to articulate and to sell ideas and concepts in culturally appropriate ways
  • Demonstrated customer service skills. Strong personal integrity and an ability to foster collaborative relationships.
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills, both strategic and tactical
  • Ability to manage multiple, highly detailed projects simultaneously, bringing them to completion within expected time frames and manages the development and completion of programme elements within related timelines and per the business goals of HIMSS


Advantageous to Have:

  • Experience of working in healthcare, technology, and/or another public policy area
  • Experience of working on international events
  • In addition to English, working proficiency in one of the following languages would be beneficial: Arabic, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese
  • Proficient in Outlook, Word, Google Docs, PowerPoint, and Excel.
