The Lead Instructional Designer will work with department leaders, business partners, subject matter experts, and other global partners to design, develop, and implement education and training programs. These programs will be developed and delivered using multiple educational formats (i.e. virtual, live, self-directed), and will focus on micro-learning certificates and certifications. The Lead Instructional Designer is responsible for engaging in the full instructional design and development cycle and will be responsible for using technology-based tools to improve the instructional integrity of all education and training materials. HIMSS will provide resources to ensure that the individual remains current on adult learning design trends and will have community access for engaged learning.

What you will need to be successful:

Design the instructional strategies for HIMSS Professional Development offerings

  • Design courses guided by adult learning principles and integrated interactive concepts and activities in both instructor-led and e-learning formats to encourage knowledge application and skill development.
  • Apply the instructional design standards, processes, and principles, as defined by the team, to ensure content is aligned to the topic identified.
  • Contribute to the roadmap of assigned curriculum changes and investments while adhering to the assigned budget.
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement and prioritized investments based on learner feedback, learner success, course engagement and completion, other metrics, and research.
  • Manage all aspects of the learning asset design process including conducting needs analyses and developing overall course/curriculum goals, requirements, and specific course objectives. Additionally, responsible for storyboard mapping course content and activities.

Create tools and resources that support the implementation of HIMSS PD offerings including a measurement plan

  • Execute change control in collaboration with other teams within the Professional Development Department and across HIMSS.
  • Continually manage project deadlines and deliverables with project teams, including the SMEs.
  • Facilitate, and if warranted, deliver classroom and virtual training, including functional courses, as needed.
  • Work with the assigned LMS administrator to load content loading and organizing, report design and generation, course enrollment/scheduling support (live and online,) and responding to requests for technical support/LMS help.
  • Gather input and feedback on the effectiveness and usability of the training materials and programs during the development process.
  • Revise content as necessary.
  • Gather data to demonstrate the value or impact of learning and performance solutions.
  • Research, identify, and apply best practices, instructional design trends, technology alternatives, and learning platform options for instructional design improvements.

Drive short and long-term strategy to increase impact and revenue

  • Participate in developing a 3-year plan that increases impact and revenue, while delivering exceptional member experiences.
  • Review and implement changes for the ongoing assessment of instructional effectiveness for all existing and future training programs.
  • Participate in conversations with employers to seek guidance on hiring challenges, skills gaps, career pathway tracks, and professional development needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in adult learning design, education, or related field
  • Minimum 5-years of experience in developing education and training related to conferences, corporate L&D, or other functions
  • Experience with developing and implementing educational programming across a variety of audiences; experience with health information and technology preferred.
  • Experience with LMS administration is required
  • User experience with a Content authoring software is required; Articulate, Captivate Is preferred
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in planning educational programming, program components, and external vendors.
  • Excellent written, oral, presentation and facilitation skills required.
  • Demonstrates innovation and creativity in the development of communications, presentations, and systems to support strategic initiatives.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills required and demonstrated ability to manage large-scale projects, with experience with project management tools or techniques a must.
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing shifting priorities and delivering timely and accurate information.
