The QA Engineer in an agile team is responsible for more than just testing the software. They find what might not work, and ensure it is caught and resolved before release. They leverage a combination of automated and manual testing to efficiently cover the system’s functionality without compromising quality. They are comfortable working in an evolving work environment and are fully dedicated to “automate everything” principle.

 

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Create detailed, comprehensive, and well structure test plans and test cases that are in alignment with Engineers and Product Management feature objectives
  • Execute test plans (unit testing, load testing, and smoke testing), documents and report defects back to development team
  • Participate in user story refinement with the scrum team to ensure high quality stories
  • Support automated testing initiatives to efficiently cover the system’s functionality without compromising quality
  • Oversight of UAT testing from planning and coordination through validation
  • Effectively manages time to maximize value to the team
  • Provides detailed information on any defects found, and help the Product Manager to prioritize defects
  • Maintain comprehensive test suites with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Partner with development teams to identify and mitigate key areas of risk in new solutions
  • Stay current with industry best practices and standards on testing
  • Actively participate in scrum ceremonies to provide clarifications and problem solve with the team
  • Support deployments across the enterprise as needed/assigned
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned that contribute to the effectiveness of the department.

What you will need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s in Computer science or related field; equivalent work experience in testing and quality assurance
  • 2 - 5 years of industry experience in testing and quality assurance
  • Experience as an exploratory/ hands-on tester with multiple platforms and testing techniques
  • Experience with manual acceptance testing at story level, exploratory, and creative testing
  • Experience in software testing environment for web-based and mobile applications
  • Knowledge of relational databases and how they work (e.g. Access/SQL Server)
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Skilled at finding hidden requirements, edge cases, and a “desire to break” attitude
  • Familiar with implementing automated end-to-end tests, experience with frameworks and tools such as BDD & Cypress
  • Ability to develop integration, performance, and load bearing tests
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify and troubleshoot problem areas
  • Goal oriented and deadline driven

What else could help you be successful:

  • Familiar with quality methodologies, tools, processes, and best practices across the software development lifecycle
  • Experience developing unit tests in JavaScript using frameworks such as Jest and the ability to code in JavaScript
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc) and integration of test automation in pipelines
