Your Challenge:

The purpose of this position is to lead and grow the MobiHealthNews editorial strategy, products and related content including the MobiHealthNews website, newsletters, video products, events and more. The Executive Editor will have direct report(s) who will take point on working with freelancers and possibly interns to maintain the site based editorial content and newsletters. The Executive Editor will focus on constantly creating compelling content to engage their audience, enhance the reputation of the brand, and add value to the HIMSS global ecosystem aligned to near and short term strategic goals. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and execute a brand vision and content roadmap for MobiHealthNews
  • Work within the editorial leadership to exchange ideas and identify synergies
  • Continually monitor primary and secondary sources to track subject specific news with the assistance of direct reports
  • Pitch innovative content ideas, news and enterprise stories
  • Track and convey aligned trends in the industry while writing and manage editorial support of enterprise pieces that explore or reference those trends
  • Edit freelancers’ and peers’ work to ensure that it is accurate and meets editorial standards and style guidelines. Work with freelance writers as needed and approved to build a solid and reliable content pipeline
  • Develop and support the launch of new HIMSS/MobiHealthNews content-based products and services, including all multimedia and event based content
  • Write and manage the writing of high-quality original content, including articles, videos, and podcasts

 

Other Functions:

  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned that contribute to the effectiveness of MobiHealthNews and the entire content department to accomplish strategic goals and objectives
  • Engage in public activities, such as moderating panels and contributing to our live and digital events businesses. Foster and maintain an onscreen presence with HIMSS TV
  • Travel to events and attend local events to cover or participate
  • Take on delegated tasks from as assigned, including, potentially, ownership of narrative newsletters, podcasts, or video series
  • Work with enterprise sales when necessary to provide context and guidance of current and forward looking Health IT topics and trends, and to ensure MobiHealthNews is providing adequate independent coverage of Health IT subjects to serve audience and inventory needs.
  • Embrace new opportunities to create brand extensions
  • Challenge the MobiHealthNews team and all editorial counterparts to embrace curiosity as a driving force to advance the HIMSS mission and vision through the power of content

What you will need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Media, Communication, Journalism or English, or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of (5) years of related editorial work experience
  • Superior writing ability: demonstrated success in writing original content, meeting daily deadlines and achieving short and long term goals for HIMSS and MobiHealthNews
  • Excellent written, communications and listening skills
  • Strong editing and copyediting skills. Familiarity with AP style, SEO best practices and emerging tools used for digital content distribution and amplification
